Default New frog species discovered!

I nearly died when I saw this at the small local pet store today. I don't know exactly what the frogs were, but they didn't look very healthy. Possibly a type of firebelly toad, they were tan with red bellies I believe. But that's not what matters here.

Yeah, that is pretty similar to what I saw. I think I had seen them several years ago, but not with that name.

I can't remember the scientific name, it's been 10 years since I saw one. I googled and found that name earlier. It's definitely the same frog. Google didn't pull up many hits for it though so I don't think that's a very commonly used name. A very funny name though.

I don't understand the name either. I'm kinda interested on the origin of it.

I just saw this post now, and believe it or not, they seem like really cool frogs. They have brilliant orange and blue flashmarks on their thighs like mantellas. If you ever read an amphibian book when you were a kid, I think you were aware that some frogs use mimicry. They have a "face" (eyespots) on their ass. They seem like really interesting animals and the flashmarks are nice looking.

I got Ass-Face Frogs!!!!! - talk to the frog

I would bet money that they are Pleuroderma brachyops. A major wholesaler just recently added them to his list. Quite a cool frog.
