Default Found this guy in our pond today!

No idea what he is, but he is now ruling the roost here in the pond we just finished. We have/had some gold fish in there... any idea of species? We love having him around but now we have to get some bigger fishies.

Being from the midwest, I don't know what species of frogs you have in the northwest. But I can assure you that this frog, or any frog for that matter, is no danger to your fish. If anything, your fish would eat the eggs and/or tadpoles of this guy if he/she are able to breed. The frog you have is almost certainly a species in the genus Rana.

I'm not positive but my first instinct is to say it's a leopard frog. We have tons of these out here. They will darken up like the one you have pictured.

Rana luteiventris or possibly Rana pretiosa (very closely related ... some would say the same).

Well, this theory goes out the window if its a larger frog species. We see our bullfrogs and even green frogs pick smaller goldfish right out of the water. It helps keep the numbers of goldfish in check and they take care of insects so they are always welcome in my watergarden.
