Sounds like something my wife said to me Saturday. Not my fault, she asked how the jeans looked.....

The problem is that if you are one sharing your opinion its hard to determine when it doesn't need to be shared.... particuarly when someone is passionate about something..

The thing that tends to irritate me about the sharing of opinions and beliefs is when the person is not open to discussion on different viewpoints or doesn't accept that they maybe different view points that are valid....
Then it becomes pounding sand down a rat hole....

Exactly Ed, well said.

You shouldn't open your mouth unless you're prepared to do the same with your ears. Sometimes I'd be happy enough if people kept both shut just to make sure no ignorance leaks out.

Are you open to the position of not being open to hearing other's positions? Think about that for a while...

It's usually quite a perdicament in these situations as these opinions are so intricately attached to who a person is that hearing opposing viewpoints feels like an attack against the very deepest part of who you are. Why else would so much emotion get poured out in a forum when someone posts what amounts to a lot of forwards I get in my inbox? This is a great opportunity for us all to ask ourselves "why am I reacting to this?"

Great question.

Now I am off to figure out why I am playing Howard Cosell to this thread.

I think you should always speak your mind, every single chance you get. If you don't like something, why not say so? You've got the right to free speech, but the problem is people don't use it enough. That or the fact that political correctness inhibits people from getting their point across.

Just throwing that out there...
