Default New York City Viv supplies

I'm new to this sport...

Im trying to find a good Viv supply store in NYC. Im from Brooklyn, and cant seem to find any store that sells cyprus or ghostwood or cork - for that matter.

Also, trying to find live moss and broms in ths city. I just like the idea of being able to see and touch this stuff before I actually buy it. I imagine I could find these things seperatly all around the city - with a whole lot of research!

I am not opposed to buying from places like black jungle though, just dont have the patience.

So help is appreciated - really want the ghostwood or cypress badly so I can complete my first viv.

Thanks!

greg

Moved this to the lounge section as the feedback section is more for site issues or questions.

You may want to check out Black Jungle you can find a link to them under the sponsors link above. Not sure how far they are from where you are but may be worth the drive. I have heard its an amazing place.

Hi Greg,

I live upstate so can't help you with NYC stores, but where you want to go is the White Plains Herp show. It's huge, and Black jungle always sets up a whole store there with plenty of wood, plants etc.

You missed the one that was yesterday, but there's another in July.

Thanks for the info guys.

I will definitly check out the expo. Too bad I missed it by one day! it looks really cool.

Also Black Jungle is 5 hours, (I googled it), guess Ill order from their kick a** online store.

Somebody should open something like that in the city!

If anyone does know of one let me know.

You want to check out your phone book for aquarium stores. Im sure they got drift wood, at least. You can find lots of supplies from these pet stores that have a specialty in fish, or like Petland Discounts. I would say half if not more of my supplies come from them.
My plants have been acquired sporadically. Some from nurseries, others from my local supermarket, and others are cutting from my mom's tropical house plants. I have ordered a few of them, and just got some orchids yesterday from the NYC orchid show. You missed that one too if you were interested. One of my plants (Dragon Tree) was actually a cutting from an office plant they were throwing out in my last job, one year ago. Its very happy now.
There are some nice nurseries on route 25A in Long Island, in the city its known as Northern Blvd. But you gotta go all the way out to as far as Cold Spring Harbor, the closer you get to that, the more nurseries you will find.

This place is about 2 hours away in heavy traffic from Queens, but I found it to be chuck full of neat stuff, though its a little smaller than I expected.

The flower market gets some nice bromeliads in, from time to time. Your best bet is ordering on the internet.
