Default SLS in Dwarf Cobalts?

Are Dwarf Cobalts prone to SLS? I've never had any with it, but I know some frogs are more likely to have that than others. Does anyone know?

If the frogs that are laying the eggs aren't properly supplemented then any species of dendrobatids are prone to producing offspring with SLS.

If the tadpoles are housed with water that is high in phosphate then that can cause sls....

Not quite what I meant, though I thank you for the input. Most of us who have been around darts for even a few months know that improper supplements in the parents can cause SLS, but I've been told by a couple of different people that Dwarf Cobalts, along with one or two other types of darts, are just more likely to have SLS than other frogs. I don't have any reason to think that's the case, as again, I've never had it with any of mine, but I was just curious to see if others with DC's have noticed this.

Hi Sharpn2,

The only difference I have noted in my FG Dwarf Cobalts is that they produce pretty small tadpoles initially (compared to the other tinctorius I keep). So, the care of the tadpoles is critically important. I feed my tadpoles on a diet of human-grade Spirulina with weekly water changes and have had good success with this approach.

Good luck, Richard.

If you factor in the time line from when deficiences of vitamin A became directly linked to SLS, then you would realize that those comments are descended from the ones that have been passed around since before that point.. It was only within the last few years (2008 see ingentaconnect Abnormalities of forelimb and pronephros in a direct developing f...) that the information became directly linked... so if the adults are properly supplemented and not deficient in vitamin A (beta carotene is a poor source of vitamin A... and that is the source of vitamin A most commonly used in supplements before just a year or two ago,...

The only other main way to get SLS froglets is by having excessive phosphorus in the water (phosphate is typically added by water companies to reduce damage to pipes and is also released by carbon filtration).

So SLS shouldn't be more commonly found in one type of frog anymore unless they are well behind the current information....

Some comments....
Ed

That's also been my experience, but slower development hasn't led to SLS in any of my froglets (and I've had a lot of froglets). I really haven't seen evidence of this claim, which is why I thought I'd ask others. So far, I'm still not seeing evidence.
