Default Pumilio treatment success

I have had my green pumilio since they were imported in "04" . They breed on a regular basis . A few months back I noticed my one girl while carrying tads on her back had something wrong with her right eye . I pulled her out into a qt bin (tads were lost at this point) upon close inspection what was protruding from her eye was a small piece of tree fern sticking in the eye . Needless to say it looked really bad . Looked like a sick stuck in the middle of pink gum ! I donned my rubber gloves and with a quick rinse went in with some tweezers . I pulled and with a slight tug the stick and eye came out at the same time . I though she's a gonner .
Well I had some meds on hand so I look through my box of tricks to see if I had anything in there that could help out for eyes . I did . I had a acid burn to my eye a few years ago the doc gave me a script of Erythomyicn ophthamic at 0.5 % . My eye healed very quickly and I had no scaring . So I gave it a try .
It worked fantastic the area where the eye was healed quickly and the eye lid sunk into the socket and the frog kept feeding like it was no big deal . After a month in qt she was taken back to her viv and her 2 male suitors .
Yesterday I noticed 2 babies and on her back were 2 tads ! Success !
Picture of her right after being placed back in the viv .

Awesome! so would tree fern be considered unsafe after this, or you had no qualms putting her back in?

That's great Darren, congrats on the save!

Over the years we've had a couple frogs come in with eye damage. I have to assume the injuries occurred during the catching/packaging or while in transit, but I can't be certain. One was a yellow female Rio Branco pumilio. In all fairness I have found them to be a little more delicate then some of the other pumilio, but she survived several months with just the single eye. She did eventually begin to lose weight despite my best efforts and we did lose her. The second is a female imitator. I was worried she would also have trouble eating, but she remains just a plump as ever and it's been a good 6 months. The fact that you've been able to have your pumilio reproduce is outstanding and proves that these frogs can exist just fine with only a single eye.

Thanks for sharing Darren!
