Default orange to red

I was at my friend Ron house taking pics of his frogs and we discovered that his pumilios had froglets. Both parents were orange basti(the female past on which brings up another point), but the babies are bright red has any one else had this occurence?

We also believe Ron's female died after depositiing the eggs(which is why the froglets were such a surprise) so what did the tads eat to survive??

It is to my understanding that the froglets are redder when they are younger. As they get older they will become more orange. This is just what I have heard so not 100% on this. I will let you know as soon as mine mature though.
