My females used to fight a lot, often more violently than the males, and they were often in an “amplexus style” clasp.

Do you mean fertilizing eggs? I thought that the term 'clasping' was usually reserved for fish.

The clasping mating ritual in frogs is scientifically referred to as amplexus, but not all frogs engage in amplexus/clasping. D. imitator does not engage in amplexus. Instead, the female lays the egg(s), moves away, then the male fertilizes it (them). Strange but true.

Not as weird as some newts, though. When they mate, the female follows the male around, and he drops a packet of sperm on the ground. The female then walks over it and picks it up with her cloaca.

I am very much aware of how Imitators show mating, or amplexus as its called. I call it simply Clasping. I know how Imitators breed and fertilize the eggs but as i stated above i wanted to know if anyone had ever seen them Clasp..... .
