Default Easy, Yet Effective Soil Mix?

Got any recipes? I honestly would do ABG but I would prefer to use something which I don't need to buy tree fern fiber...

Is it because you can't find a good source or because you are against the use of non-sustainable harvest Tree Fern fiber?

No good source...

(I would rather not have to ship things like that anyways)

This has worked pretty well for me, but I am not a horticulturist.

3 part fine fir bark
1 part coconut coir
1 part New Zealand long fiber sphagnum moss (broken up a little)
1 part "Flourite" aquarium gravel

The measurements are not exact. I usually use a "handful" as my measuring unit.

Easy substrate. From Lowe's, Home Depot, Walmart etc:

Natural charcoal (crunch it up)
Orchid bark
Sphagnum moss (I chop it up a bit)
Coco fiber (sometimes can find it at the above stores. Otherwise from pet store)

I also toss in some leaves from the yard.
Sometimes I add some LECA if I have it lying around.

Mix it together and toss it in. I think this is similar to the ABG mix.

Ahhh, ok then.

I do have one question, I have heard a few anecdotes of the coco beginning to rot and smell unpleasant... is this common?

I have had that experience with coco chips but not with coco fiber.
