Default Thumbs: Big Group, Big Tank; Pair, Small TAnk

In your opinion would I be better off converting several smaller tanks (say 20H's) into verts for pairs of thumbs, or building one larger tank (say 45"x18"x36") and housing several pairs? It would be more economical to build a larger tank, which is why I'm asking...

I heard they are monogamous, and I read the Saurian article saying they may get stressed in groups. Of course I'm sure a large tank would change things, but I'm still wondering..

PS: I'm using the general word thumbs, because I don't know what kind I want yet, but I would not put different morphs/species together...

If it were me, I would do several smaller vivs. That way I can keep things separated, and it's easier to figure out where the frogs are if they're not out in front. That is, unless I had a really neat large plant that I wanted to showcase...

I'm doing the opposite, building a large enclosure to house an army of intermedius. I think you'd probably get to observe a lot more interesting behaviors with multiple pairs in a large tank. JMO.

We have both situations (large tanks and just pairs) and enjoy both set-ups just as much.

We have cainarachi valley, nominat imis, intermedius, veradero, and fants in a group situation in large tanks. We have our amazonicus as a pair.

Does the larger tank save you space? For me that would be so I can have more tanks for other frog species, but I'm a hoarder lol

Seeing them all interact and behave when they set-up territories would be fun but you also run the risk of losing animals in the next few years. As you read, that article talks about ideas and concepts but no concrete bible rules. I think that's the way it should be and whatever works for you.

I know people who say to never keep tinc tadpoles together but I know a breeder that does it and he morphs out awesome and huge froglets. I personally don't do it. Another friend has a trio of patricia and he can't figure out if he has 2.1 or 1.2 yet but they're producing good eggs for him with no aggression so he leaves them. Other groups might fight to the death.

Whatever works for you. I'd say the safe bet is broken up into pairs.

Take care and good luck,
DJ

Hi. I'm new and don't even see where to post a new topic. I was interested in converting a wooden reptile habitat into a place for frogs...

Epoxy Resin coating the inside of the wood? Fiberglass resin? Then sand it smooth? Sounds like a pina but it might be worth it?
