Default Defense posture in auratus

We have had auratus in the past but I never remember them displaying defense postures. We just got a couple auratus in and everytime we open the containers they hunch up and push themselves off the ground. Its quite amusing to watch but I don't remember ever noticing that behavior in our other auratus. Maybe its because we never saw them since they hid ALL the time.

Anyone else notice this behavior?

I have seen it more in wild caught auratus than captive born auratus but have still been it in captive born ones. It seems that it is most prevalent when the frogs do not feel secure (shipped or quaranteen). I am sure it is one of the frogs last resorts if it cannot find cover from a potential predator.

I have seen it more in Panamanian Auratus. My Green and blacks are WC, but I have F3 Blue and Blacks that do it as well. The only time they do it is when I lift the cocohut up to check for eggs and they are in there. I have never witnessed my costa rican auratus (WC) doing it.

I have a 4 year old CB blue and black female, shes temporarily housed in a quarantine tub, (been there since I seperated her and her mate a few months ago),that does this every time I look under the leaves for her. As soon as I pick up the leaf she hunches up and tries to look as threatening as possible. It kinda freaked me out at first because I had never seen a frog do that before, but she does it every time. Like Josh, I have never seen this behavior from my G&B Auratus.

Do Nicaraguan auratus do this too? There is a really big one that is supposed to be Nicaraguan at a local reptile shop that does this whenever someone cleans the glass or checks on it under a cocohut.
