Default Housing Pumilio

I'm in the process of building a 45 gallon viv. How many Pumilio could be successfully housed if it was to be heavily planted and have many hiding spots? Is there a ratio that works best for these? I'm not sure if it varies from species to species, if so they are Isla Solarte Pums.

Thanks,

Mike

Typically with pumilio, even in large enclosures, a pair is recommended, with a 1.2 trio max. Male pumilio are extremely aggressive. I recently almost lost a male Yellowbelly because he was a suspected female and was in with an unknown; it quickly became apparent that they were both males, and the younger one probably came within a day of killing the older one.

A larger tank may be more successful for the pair you put in it, and any froglets they have, but from what I've read, you really need something closer to the size of a room to pull more than a pair together off.

I agree, a pair is the way to go. Loads of leaf litter, so you get the microfauna going, and seed with as many bugs as you can. Ive also read using pothos along with broms encourages more egg laying.

I agree, only keep a pair in that tank. If you haven't read this thread already, do so:

Thanks everyone for the quick replies. Would you recommend placing any canisters on the glass or is this not necessary? I don't recall seeing any Pum vivs with any placed there.

Canisters would be utilized for rearing tads or just a good hiding place for the frogs, my clutches have always been laid on brom leaves.

I asked the same question of some other pumilio breeders. It seems that most will always lay and deposit tads in broms if given the choice between broms and canisters. Mine certainly did. Mike and Rich at Black Jungle don't use broms in their breeding tanks, and that's the only way they get adults to deposit tads in artificial cups.

Do any of your Pums lay under coco huts with a petri dish or would I be better off just not placing any of those in the viv?

Thanks for all of your help
