Default Pumilio aggression

What would you consider the aggression level of these guys and based on this how many could be put in a fully planted 90gal (48x17x21).

Very very high. Pumillio are easily one of the most aggressive PDFs we work with. If you have the opportunity to thumb through Jewels of the Rainforest, there's a pic of a Pumilio attacking a grown Tinc for being in its territory. I know group Pumilio setups have been done (Rich Frye's Uberviv), but I would proceed with caution and if this is your first venture into darts, don't do it.

Yea, you can't "thumb through" a video. Jewel's is an older and dated book that has incredible pictures. It's a bit expensive, but you can usually find it at reptile shows where it's at least looking at.

I have to agree with Mike and unless you can offer a rather large vivarium anything other than pairs could be problematic.

a 90-gallon, well-planted tank with ample tadpole depo sites, could easily accomodate more than one pair of pumilio, in my opinion, or, at the very least, a single male and multiple females. Yes they are an agressive species but a 90-gallon is a big tank. Why not try 2.2 or 2.3 and then closely monitor for male-male aggression or egg-eating by females and adjust the ratio as necessary?

Considering in the wild these guys occupy cubic meters of space as their territory, a 90g tank is not large in the slightest. I also don't think keeper experience can be ignored in this case either. I have no reason to think this person isn't anything by an impeccable keeper, but starting out in darts by trying to do many pumilio in a tank is not a good idea.

comparing any tank to the unobstructed wild is really not a proper contest. a 90-gal is a big tank relative to what most keepers are going to use. I dont think 2.2 pumilio in such an enclosure, provided its well-planted, is an outlandish concept. And if there are probs, the animals can be separated. Like your signature line suggests, much of this hobby is experimentation. Of course, I would never suggest a beginner to start with pums as their first darts, let alone groups of them, but unless we are in the "beginner" section, I generally don't assume a lack of experience.

What I'm getting at with tank size compaired to wild territory is that if in the wild a pum will attack a full grown tinc, then in a tank the problem is going to be intensified because of the space. I have nothing against someone trying it, have at it, but I'm not sure a 90g is a good place to do it.
