Default NAIB Bloodline?

Can someone explain how NAIB bloodline got into circulation? I started as a volunteer herp assistant in the Rainforest and when I asked the herpotologist they couldn't explain it as the NAIB doesn't "release" frogs to the public. Just curious.

Thanks,
Dan

I know Sean from Herpetologic purchased his NAIB breeders from the aquarium....as far as how, I'm not sure.

No disrespect intended - posted comments on this question may not lead to positive outcomes. IMO its more of a subject for a face-to-face discussion.

Default WHY?

Thanks for your opinion. However, I think this is a fair question. I would have to wonder "why" anyone would have a problem with this question unless there was something to hide. I mean one of the biggest things with this hobby is keeping records of bloodlines and so on. If you have a so-called NAIB bloodline it would be nice to track the bloodline and see where it originated from.
Not trying to stir up crap but why keep this a secret and why turn it into a negative post?

Thanks,
Dan

This topic was discussed this past weekend at the local MADS meeting. My comment was only to make a respectful recommendation based upon where I heard last weekend's discussion go. If anything is going to "stirred" here - it will not be by me.

Dan,

I don't know who you talked to at NAIB, but I used to work there. I am not going to single out any names or people, but I will say this- they do not trade with the general public. They have in the past traded animals with reputable breeders, but it wasn't under normal circumstances. The private company had to have something that the institution really wanted or needed. Specific "higher ups" at NAIB are very much against trading with the public and even private companies, but again rarely are exceptions made.

Now that the private company has traded with the institution, then the company can now start breeding the frogs and this is how they leak into the hobby. This is how D. azureus was entered into the hobby and many tinctorius morphs.

Also keep in mind that the question may have been answered with respect to the "new" azureus bloodlines that were brought into the country (sometime close to 1998/2000) for the azureus studbook work, and not the older animals of unconfirmed origins. This means that the NAIB bloodline was a group of animals at one time bred/worked with at NAIB and not the current animals held there.

In addition, the animals may not have been released from NAIB as NAIB has supplied many zoos with azureus through the years. Some Zoos have a different take on the procedures required to release animals to the private sector. The azureus could have gone to another Zoo been bred there and released to the private sector (again years ago as policies have become much more strigent) and still been NAIB bloodline.

Some comments on the process...

Ed

I I hope with some of the projects like TWI we can work with the Zoos someday. It makes no sense why we can't...
