Default Pumilio vert or horizontal?

I am just about to put the foam background on a 20 gallon high. It will be housing a pair of bastimentos. I was going to do a vert but I was wondering if they will do fine in a horizontal? That way I wouldn't have to make that pain in the butt door. I have heard that they will spend most of the time on the ground or in the broms any way.

Mine tend to prefer the vertical features and use the full vertical height.

My experience echos Alan's in that my bastimentos use the foliage and upper reaches of the viv quite a bit....I have them in a 25 gallon high. This is in contrast to a morph like Man Creek where it is not uncommon to find them rumbling down at substrate level. I personally think that the best compromise with pumilio is to provide them with both floor space and climbing room and let them chose what they prefer at any given time.

So do you think it would kill them to make it a 20 horizontal? I just hate making those annoying vert doors.

I'm gonna be using a 20 long vertical, hopefully this has enough horizontal space and vertical space they like. :?

I'd go vertical - as much as a pain as verts are to do.

Doors aren't a pain..just give Paul at FCA a call. He'll take great care of you. I love his inserts.

I think I will just have to force myself to make another vert door. I just don't want to spend that much on just an acrylic door. I guess it will be a 20 gallon high vert with a pair of bastis. I will be ordering some broms from antone shortly. When I finish it I will post some pics.

I'd say a 20 gallon "high" tank is fine. I've kept alot of my pumilio in 20 High tanks, set horizontal. There's plenty of climbing space in there. Its a matter of personal preference, I think.

Besides, how much more veritical space are you gaining by making it a vertical? like 4-6 inches at the most. I don't think pumilio notice 4-6 inches when they are used to having a couple hundred square feet in the wild ( or more).
