Shoot, I bred my pumilio in 10 gallon tanks per pair (prefer the 15/16/18 gallons tho) that where not vertical... the hieght is nice, they will take advantage of it, but its more that they just need ROOM. 20L vertical doens't give them much room they are lacking in either hieght or floorspace one way or another... a 20H vertical or horizontal gives them plenty of room both in floorspace and height, so either way is fine.

I think in this case the biggest deciding factor for you will be where you're putting the tank. This can affect the access to it. If you're putting it on a rack, you probably want a vert. That way you can just open the front. I hate trying to open the top of the tank when there is a shelf above it. My .02

Default vert inserts

I've got a couple of those inserts but the one on my lamasi tank bowed. I have bought another one to try again but first I'd like to know how to keep it from bowing? Do you just sand the edges a lot more so it doesn't fit so snug in the tank top and then glue it in or what?
thanks and sorry for the hijack?
Drew
