crickets
Wondering where people are buying their crickets from nowadays. I'm looking to buy small quantities of just a few hundred adults at a time. Looking to breed them to produce pinhead crickets to then feed out.
When you have the crickets shipped do they have to be shipped overnight or is 2 day shipping OK?
Thanks.

EDIT- It`s been awhile since I bought crickets, but I think it was 2 day shipping.

Re: crickets
I get mine from southern as well, they've always sent it out on time and their shipping prices seem to be less than a lot of places, especially during the winter.
I'm actually not sure how they ship, I just call and place the order and it comes within a few days. I've ordered from them for about a year now and the crickets have always arrived healthy.

Re: crickets
why do you want a couple of hundred crickets at one time. if they are adults they are pretty much at the end of thier life. they might last you 2 weeks before they die. try going to a petco type store and get at the most at one time 50. i think even 50 crickets would be a bit much unless you have a bunch of amphibs that would need pinheads. i think it would be cheaper for you them paying for crickets and the shipping.

I'm not looking to feed out the adult crickets. I want the adult crickets to breed so I can get the pinhead crickets to feed out to my thumbs & pums. So, initially I need crickets of breeding age.
I am getting 50-60 adult crickets at a time now from a local pet store. I have a set up that works well for that small a number but I'm not getting enough pinhead crickets to feed out to all my tanks. I was thinking of cranking up the numbers on the adults.

This is often because some of the cricket suppliers send out crickets that have already dumped a lot of thier eggs. If they carry the 3/4 sized crickets get those and rear them to adults in a couple of weeks as those will produce a lot more eggs.

That's a very good point. And I'm sure that's happening to me. I think that's the risk you take buying from a local pet store. Which is another reason I'd like to get some from a reputable mail order place that will ship me some just getting old enough to lay eggs.
