Default mites in ff cultures :(

Well I've never had a problem with mites in the past but since starting back in the hobby things have changed. My cultures I noticed have little white mites moving around in them. Where do I start as far as eradicating them? They are kept in the same area as my dry medium and unused cups/coffee filters. so do I need to start over with the dry goods too? I can move them to my storage if needed, but with winter coming it will get plenty cold in there. What other options (btw they are in the stand for my one frog tank)?

Just so you don't think that everyone on this board is ignoring you....

The Mite topic is huge and greatly discussed / documented on various sub sections here.

Do a search...... "Mites" and prepare to spend a hour or so researching.....you probably have already.

Yeah, I've read up on it but I didn't see anything about my current dry goods (media, cups, lids etc). Maybe I just missed it since there is so much info out there.

I keep my dry media in a large, presumably airtight clear plastic container bought at bed bath and beyond and used for flour storage, I think.

You need to concentrate on good FF maintenance and hygene...hence the 30 day culture rule and mite paper.

It's really all you can do.....everyone gets mites at some point in time and most have them in some degree, always.

To constantly worry about mites is to not enjoy the Hobby.......less worry is better 8)

I was just concerned because in the past I've never had a mite problem with cultures. I know they were always there, but they got a good foothold on 2 of my current cultures (which are now RIP in the trash after I gave my frogs a healthy feeding lol). I have mite spray for birds since I used to have parrots (before the g/f moved out and took them), so I'll be doing the paper towel thingy.

BTW, the cultures infested were just over the 30 day rule by one week. I'm sure you know how hard it can be to throw away cultures that are still producing And now I'm low on flies so I'll be going to the local pet store for a new batch I can feed while my others catch up. Thanks for the info.
