Because of what and the way the adult flies eat, gutloading them doesn't really work. They aren't actually eating the media, but a slurry of liquids that is on top of the media and not directly impacted by the oddball things you put in the media. The larvae is what is actually eating the media, and thus the one that is going to have the media in the gut when it's eaten.
The purpose of gut loading a critter is to get some extra goodies in the gut of the animal a couple hours before you feed them out... then the predator gets the nutrition of the prey, and what was inside the prey's gut at the time. It works better with some animals than others (those with larger guts for example, and those easier to feed out random foods) and the actually adult phase flies are not one that can be significantly gutloaded, while the larvae definately can.
