The stuff rots quickly in frog tanks, and likely will rot just as fast in the high humidity FF cultures.

Excelsior is actually a different product, made of wood shavings.

that is my concern with using Tillandsia usneoides. I have been using excelsior for years and yes it is made of wood shavings, most commonly of Populus tremuloides

I am still looking to see if anyone has tried using it.

Ok, I'm getting confused... your subject says excelsior but you're talking about spanish moss... which are you talking about when you are asking if any are using "it"? I use excelsior, but the spanish moss rots... whether it started dry or live.

not trying to confuse anyone, I should have titled it: Is Tillandsia usneoides (spanish moss)a good substitute for Populus tremuloides shavings (excelsior moss) for culturing Drosophila melanogaster?
