I prefer free range FF over captive bred. Admittedly you need more pasture, and branding the little buggers to ID them from your neighbors is a bit tiresome, but I feel its worth the effort.

The fun part comes when its time to drive them across the great plains, towards the train station to be shipped off to the slaugher houses. All that work to ensure some cityslickers can have teenie weenie .000001 oz steaks . . .
