Default Springtail q's...

What do you all do when you first get a new culture of springtails? Should I be doing something or just let them do their thing for a couple of weeks till I see some more? I want to seed 3 vivs in all, how do most of you do this?

I always recommend that people take the culture they get and make a bigger one. Bigger cultures produce better. Once you get a bigger culture going, you can use it to make other cultures and seed tanks.

I'm interested in this topic as well. I'll be getting my first cultures next week.

If someone could point me in the direction of some info detailing the different kinds of springtails that are available, that would be much appreciated.

I did what Josh suggests. I made a larger culture from my initial starter culture. I seeded my viv with media from the larger culture (the media that I use is coco bedding) once it developed a springtail population boom. I now have tons of springtails that are triving in my viv. So far, I have not had to add more springtails to the viv though I still maintain one large culture and one small culture just in case.

How do you go about making a new culture? do you wet your coir or just break it up and toss it in there? do you put rice in yours? charcoal? I'm ready to make a bigger culture, just want to make sure I do it right.

When I'm ready to seed a viv, do I just take a clump of the culture, try to put it in a spot that doesn't get disturbed too much and put some dead leaves and such on top? ANything else to add? Thanks again.
