Idea - new section for individual species threads
Hi all,
What do you think? Would it be beneficial to create a section specifically for species specific threads? For example, there would be one thread for R. benedicta, another for A. bassleri, etc., where folks could post husbandry info, photos, updates, etc. It seems that this might be easier than constantly updating the care sheets and might allow a bit more experiential data to be shared. It might also permit Mods to delete comments that don't pertain to the thread. Thoughts?

Re: Idea - new section for individual species threads
I think it's a great idea as well. It might be a big more feasible to group them by genus though. For example, Ranitomeya, Phyllobates, Dendrobates and so on. I just think that by species would add too many topics for the mods to moderate and for new people to navigate.
Great thinking though!

i agree with matt, although you could incorporate the care-sheet section to it. Or maybe just have opened care sheets some how.

Re: Idea - new section for individual species threads
I was thinking more like the following, for example:
[Species specific threads]<[Genus]<[Dendrobates]<[Dendrobates leucomelas]
So one would click on the tab, then be directed to separate tads by Genus and then within them would find specific species profiles. Once the initial architecture is done I don't think it would that difficult to manage.
I suppose I'm thinking of something like a wiki for each species but in a thread format. For example, there would be no insane rant on legality, etc. that would undermine the threads intent. Posts would solely be about the species.

not a bad idea, I would replace the care-sheet section with that, It would make them easier to find

Re: Idea - new section for individual species threads
Ah, better example would be the Dendrobates.org site ( Dendrobates.org - Species accounts) but again, in a thread format. Maybe the first post in the thread could echo the care sheet or something.

Re: Idea - new section for individual species threads
How about making threads by species group, that way it's not as broad as a genus but not as time consuming as individial species threads would be. Also any information presented in that thread would likely be relevant to other members of that species group.

Re: Idea - new section for individual species threads
I guess I'm more of a splitter on this one. IMO, we would have E. anthonyi 'Rio Sallidillo' as one thread. Whats the harm. And consider that many subspecies, morphs, locales, whatever you want to call them, are very different. Having an E. anthonyi thread would be difficult to manage since they have such a large range, not entirely restricted to lowland habitat if my memory serves me correctly.
Anyway, I'm glad that there seems to be some interest. However, the final say is clearly up to Kyle.
