Where did you obtain this FAT male? Very awesome looking frog, but, then again, I am drawn to natural tones(drab/earthy)...! I would love to see full tank shots, a bit on YOUR husbandry practices, etc! Thanks for sharing!

Full tank shot would do you little good, the plant in the photo has grown and filled the entire tank. The frogs always lay up on the leaves of the plant, if I can get the eggs before the snails do I pull them out. I get about a 1% fertilization rate as these frogs were sold to me as E. boulengeri years ago. The male obviously looked differant with the tank mates looking as traditional boulengeri. Jason Brown came over and after looking at the frog he knew it was differant but couldn't remember what it was, he did mention that these two inhabit the same area and do produce naturally occuring hybrids. So long story short I've got some offspring that so far all look like the female boulengeri. Couple weeks later Jason emailed me the ID, as it came to him in the middle of a cheeseburger.

be interesting to see how the juvies develop. There is no differant husbandry with these than other darts, they just get smaller flies, but all else is the same.

I'm a tad confused - are you saying the male is darwinwallacei while the females are boulengeri?It might have to do with it being 6 in the morning as I'm posting this...

Both of these species inhabit the same range and produce naturally occurring hybrids according to Dr. Brown. I've had the male roughly ten years shipped as boulengeri, it is in the tank with two other true boulengeri, they just started laying last year but the fertility rate is less than 10%, all of the offspring look like boulengeri. I am not totally sure of the sex of the third frog, it looks to be female as well but could be a male. Never seen it call or display or fight etc. I am assuming I have a 1.2 trio.

see if and what the third generation looks like
