Default Egg question

I have a pair of Nikitas that just laid their first fertilized clutch, and this my first time breeding darts. I have read that some people use blackwater extract around their eggs (as well as with their tads) to prevent fungus, is this necessary? Also, if so what dilution should I use? They laid the clutch last Tuesday, so they are 5 days old.

Thanks

Grats on your eggs! Blackwater extract is not necessary. Lots of folks use just plain old water. I'd make sure it's been treated if you use tap water. You can also boil a few leaves or add them to the water for the tads.

Some people may use the blackwater extract on their eggs. I just use it for the tads. To keep fungus from attacking the eggs I use methyl blue, a common aquarium medication. I add 1 drop to 1 gallon of water than I mix that at a 1:1 ratio with spring water. If you can find methyl blue at your pet store, make up a 1 gallon jug of it and get a new unused hand spray bottle to gently spray the eggs. A one gallon jug should last you quite a while since you are gonna dilute that mixture even further. Hope this helps.

If you do use blackwater extract, you just add enough to turn your water the color of light iced tea.

Ok I posted a separate thread for this, but no responses......One of my eggs molded, will that spread to the other eggs it was touching? Does anyone know if the males urine has anti-fungal/mold properties that would have prevented this from happening had I left the eggs in the terrarium?

I use a slurpee straw (from 7-11) to help remove the bad egg. My understanding is that it's not technically the frog's urine but that the fluid does help prevent mold. I'm just regurgitating info from the boards so take it with a grain of salt...

Im guessing that the egg may have just not been fertilized, then molded over. Being in the tank or out of the tank may not have had a difference to it. What do the other eggs look like? Are they developing?

It was definitely fertilized. The others seem to be developing fine I saw movement for the first time today. Here are some pics from Day 7, 8, 9 respectively. Day 9 is when I noticed the egg second from the left was molded and removed it before taking the pic. The egg on the far right is the one I'm concerned about (paranoid) now b/c it looks slightly cloudy to me. Any thoughts?

I havent been at this to long, but those eggs look fine to me. Ive had eggs stay black the whole time and then some would turn a real light gray while developing. I had my 1st clutch of eggs turn moldy but they had no signs of development at all. I would just let it go and see if they hatch out.
