Default Ranitomeya vanzolinii

Hi

Does anyone here keep or breed vanzilini's?

I have tapoles in bromeliads and am wondering what they will be feeding on. They are onbviously feeding on something as they are growing but I just want to make sure it is enough for the duration of growing and if I should be supplementing.

Any advice would be appreciated

Damien

vanzolini are non-obligate egg feeders, the female is feeding the tads eggs.

I didn't realise they were egg feeders too. I have taken one out that was in a film canister and can see at least 2 in a bromeliad which I left. I though egg feeder tadpoles were dificult to raise artificially? This one is doing fine on spirulina etc..

Obligate egg feeders only eat unfertilized eggs

Non obligate
egg feeders eat both eggs and other materials.

Vanzolinii are non obligate there for can be raised very easily artificially, I raise some of my vanzolinii tads and leave some for the adults to raise.

Do your vanzolini usually lay in bromeliads or do they use containers at all?

I have two in bromeliads and a third was transported to a cannister. I am raising that one ok on spirilina.

I have found spawn since which proved to be infertile. Are they likely to produce again while they are feeding the two in the bromeliads?

With most dendrobatids, removing the tads/eggs encourages the perspective parents to reproduce more frequently.
