55 Gallon Paludarium build.

Posted 01-11-2017 at 03:41 AM by Irving

After Christmas I have been able to order some more plants. This time from Andy's Orchids. Andy is very helpful and spent a lot of time with me on the phone while I put together a package of plants, and I was not at all disappointed when they arrived. Though on the pricey side, the delivery is very reasonable and the quality was very high.

Included was a surprise bonus plant. I'm pretty sure this an Oncidium (Tolumnia) velutinum. Which likes to be a bit...

Some small updates:
Neoregelia dungsiana ordered from Josh's Frogs. I was able to weave all the runners into the cork bark.

And here is an update of the tank as a whole:

Would love some advice from anyone on livestock. I will be re-introducing shrimp (my last batch died off while I was on holiday. My suspicion was that it got too hot in my apartment, but can't be sure) and would love to introduce some kind...

Some new plants:
From Violet Barn - Columnea microphylla and Microgramma heterophylla. Great packing and quality of plants but pretty awful service. I ordered the plants on Monday and did not receive them until the Thursday of the next week. Even though I paid for 2-3 day shipping.

The Columnea planted into the wall (top right) next to a Peperomia prostrata ordered from Josh's frogs a week or so before.

Inclusion of an excellent selection of miniature bromeliads from Tropiflora. They were very helpful and reasonably priced.

Some more views of the tank. In the waterfall the cuba is starting to establish. I also added some Pogostemon helferi coming out of the rocks in the waterfall.

The moss is starting to grow out of the water and up the branches which I'm also very happy about.
