The frustration of this hobby..and my worries about the futchuer

Over the last few months I really started to question where things are going with this hobby..I have seen more and more people looking for illegal frogs and people who are keeping hybrids ...i see people getting advise on question they ask and getting aggravated because thier not herring what they want or expected to here etc etc... The way I look at it thier are 2 groups of people here..We have one group of people that want to do every thing they can to go agents the grain trying to do every thing they can to do what is general shunned upon..and i really fell that most of these people just want to do it because they get kicks out of trashing what people have worked so hard to get at...They want to make hybrids just because they can ..Or they do a mixed species tank for shock value...."Look what I can do they been in thier a whole month and every thing is fine!".....why do you not ever seem them posting that after a year???? I really feel people are doing this just to aggravate us..and as much as i try not to some time my heart takes over and I fall for this..but thankfully there are good people too... The curmudgeon group ..definition
1archaic : miser
2: a crusty, ill-tempered, and usually old man
The people that have been around a wile and have stuck with the tried and true methods and who strive to keep things as pure as we can and who are here for the frogs and not to have the next big thing....
Look where in a very strange point in this hobby....We have people like Mark Pepper who have been working thier butts off to be able to offer us animals we could have only dreamed about.....Why its it where still worried about frogs we had our shot with.....why do we need to smuggle lehmanni, captivus, histrionica.....Isn't what we have good enough???? And for that matter how many people out thier should really have this frogs in thier hands...and another thing I am sick of herring people respond to this as "well if we can get heathy frogs then it's really not that big of a deal"..thats crap...i don't care how easy they might be their certain people that should be giving these frogs to work with first and they should be the ones supplying every one..People like Rob M, and Tor and Tod. people that have worked with and breed this frogs before or the like....I under stand this is a pipe dream and as long as people have the cash flow and the desire and greed to support smuggling its gonna happen...I just get discouraged some times when i see or here certain things....I am sorry i rambled on for a bit but its something thats really been bugging me.

I don't think its worse what we are seeing a increase of is some of the younger crowd who simply have no respect for anything. With a wife as a teacher I can tell you some of the current generations are going to have it rough when they get older. They simply want what they want no matter what the consequence.Posted 03-07-2009 at 01:40 AM by kyle1745

Kyle - you just contradicted yourself. You said it's not getting worse and then you said it's getting worse (your quote below).
It's getting worse ... just not the curmudgeons (cough) that are getting worse.

Has there ever been a generation who was excited about what their kids generation had to offer? The elders tend to notice all the things that the kids lack, but not what they are capable of. IF they were so useless, you would think that they wouldn't be able to get decent jobs, but time and time again, its the young ones who develop the most innovative new companies.Posted 03-07-2009 at 06:04 AM by markbudde

I think that's why many of us old curmudgeons have quit posting here, or even lurking. I usually choose to lurk around once in awhile. I prefer spending the time and energy working with my frogs instead of arguing with people looking for a fight. Maybe we need a forum sub-group for curmedgeons, where we can sit around and drink virtual coffee, and talk about how tough things were when we were kids?Quote:

“The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers."
- Socrates (470 - 399 BC)
I taught for 8 years. I can definately see a difference in today's classroom than the classroom I was a part of growing up. I think we owe a lot to the teachings of Doctor Spock. Young people are encouraged to question doctrine and have less respect for authority. Your frustration is very evident. All you can do is teach why things are done the right way.
