I've never kept a blog before...

So here goes...
My name is Amanda, and I'm a surgical vet tech in Ithaca NY. In addition to my frogs, I have 3 cats, 3 canaries, and one spoiled horse!

My first frogs were a pair of red eyed tree frogs, who unfortunately passed away a couple of months ago. I had them for about a year and a half, and while I loved them, I don't miss the crickets at all! It was while doing tree frog research online that I discovered Black Jungle, and as soon as I realized that there were people out there keeping dart frogs, I knew I had to have some!

My first darts were my azureus, who I got from Oz in June '07. They live in a 20H in my living room, and have recently begun breeding like crazy. I currently have 6 eggs from 2 clutches, and 12 tadpoles in the water. The oldest tadpole should be growing legs soon, and I just spotted the youngest one on Dad's back a little while ago!

About 6 months after getting the azureus, I picked up 2 leucs from Matt M. Honestly, I just wanted to have another larger species under my belt before moving to thumbnails, but I quickly realized how great leucs are, and I still really enjoy hanging out and watching them climb all over their viv (also a 20H). They have the best personalities! They were tiny babies when I got them, and are not yet a year old. At least one is calling, but as soon as I try to peek in the tank to see which one is doing the calling, he shuts up!

Six months after the leucs (are we detecting a pattern?) I got a group of Iquitos red-orange vents, who I had wanted since before I got the leucs. They are just the most beautiful little frogs I have ever seen! They tended to hide quite a bit in quarantine, but have been much bolder now that they are in their tank, and easier to find when they are hiding! They live in a 26g bowfront, which is my pride and joy at the moment!

About a month ago (and breaking the six-month trend) I got a trio of Linbo line variabilis. They are about 2 years old, and the males have been calling from their quarantine container. I'm wondering if the female is gravid, so maybe they'll give me some eggs soon...we'll see! They are lots of fun to watch too, and so far seem to be much less flighty than the vents!

Well, that's my little intro...I'm looking forward to sharing my newbie frog-keeping experiences with people who understand!

See ya next time!
Amanda
