Default azureus froglets

I finally decided on 4 azureus froglets for my first pdf's I had a few questions.

I know eventually I'm going to end one with just 1 male/female pair per tank. Till what age can I keep the froglets together? At what age will they start to fight and need to be separated?

It is usually the females that fight? Do they just fight in general because they're both females or do they fight over the chance to breed with a male. In other words, could two females be kept together if there wasn't a male in the tank to fight over?

Can males be kept together without a female in the tank?

Still learning................Thanks,
GARY

Hi Gary,

Im new at this too. Waiting on my First Class Acrylic vivarium, which should be here next week. As we speak, I am getting ready to go out to Black Jungle to pick up the stuff I will need. I also have decided on Azureas, probably 4, maybe 5. Although Im still tossing around the idea of purchasing a pair that has been sexed. But at the moment leaning towards the froglets.

From what I understand you can keep females together sometimes, if there are no males. If I am wrong, someone please correct me.

Keep me in mind... if we end up with all the same sex, maybe we can do some swapping. Im not sure where Medina is, but I am right smack in the center of Massachusetts.

I've not worked with Azureus, but I have worked with Tincs and in my experience females will fight if there is a male in the tank of not. But, they don't fight until they hit "puberty" so if you buy froglets now you'll have at least 6 months, probably more like 10 months, to decide what frog is what sex and split them up before they start fighting. I've not notices male-male agression with Tincs, but I'm pretty sure there is a chance of it. Just like people frogs have a bit of personality so there are exceptions to the rules.

I just got back from Black Jungle and was told that getting 4 will give a very good chance of getting a pair. Seems as the Azureas produce approximately 50/50 males/females where other kinds may produce more one way or the other.

Females tend to exhibit more agression towards each other than males. Azureus are best kept as adults in pairs, but, if given enough room, 2.1 should be fine. Male heavy is *usually* the way to go in the dart world.

With froglets you'd want to raise them either individually or in a group, 2-3 animals (not sure about 4, I consider a group to be 5+) tend to have one or more animals that don't do as well as the others as they age. As the animals become older and become sexable, that's when you want to start seperating them out into pairs, try not to wait til they are sexually mature and start beating up on each other.

I'm not a fan of trios, the 3rd wheel tend to end up with the short end of the stick. One male will be dominant, and the non-dominant male may end up getting beat up by the female, the male, both, or neither.

This applies to both azureus and tincs.
