Default Too many fruit flies

In anticipation of my new frogs, I made a lot of fruitfly cultures and ordered some from Ed's. Problem is, now I have 5 cultures producing TONS of flies, and another 2 that will be ready within the next week or two. I feel bad letting so many go to waste. Should I feed the frogs the larvae from one or two of the cultures?

Sure, feed some of the larve...
Don't feel bad, it's part of the learning curve, also, if you post you're location, perhaps you have a neighbor that could use some flies.

If you don't get rid of some of the flies out of the cultures they will crash due to too many flies.

You can feed them to your fish or flush them (don't use your sink as they will sometimes survive if they aren't flushed down thoroughly.)

I keep nine active cultures for 6 froglets. I have 3 types of flies, Hydie, wingless melos, and curly winged melos. I make new melos every week, and hydie every two weeks. I always have way more than I need, and will put some of the extras in a ziplock bag in the freezer, that I use to feed my fish, and pitcher plant. It is good to have extra on hand, cause I have lost a culture, do to hatching into flyer's somehow???, and still had plenty to offer the frogs.

One thing you will quickly learn is, it is always better to have to many cultures than not enough. Normaly it will take a few cycles to determine how many you need and how many to make at one time.
