What is this? I'm new of course... but I've not seen this pop up before. No pictures of course.

Thanks,

Mac

It’s a very pretty D. tinctorius that comes from French Guiana. This population is naturally smaller than many of the other tinc populations thus the dwarf part of the name. You can see a picture at

wow i've never seen those before. anybody have any experience with them? i'd love to stick them in my next viv. i'm curious how they do in groups, or if they're the same as most tincs.

I have 3 of these, got them from Devin Edmonds,,i'm pretty sure hes got pics on his site(amphibiancare.com) They're only about 5-6 months. Great little frogs, one of my favorites, they're common but you have to search a little harder than most tincs to find some. care/grouping for them is same as any other other tinc. I found better results when i searched under dwarf french guiana tinc instead of just dwarf tinc when i was researching them

Also a note - "dwarf" tinc could also be referring to just a size range in morphs of tincs. FGs are the most common called by that name, but oyapoks, lorenzos, and a couple other morphs can be called dwarfs as well. Much like "giant" tincs could land you with citronellas, regina/giant oranges, and even yellowbacks.

FGs don't seem to be particularly common at the moment, but are around. Matt Mirabello also works with them, but I don't know if he currently has tads from them or not. One thing I do have to say about them is that even CB without working on their color they blow surinam cobalts out of the water yellow wise (I think its because the surinams have more orange in their "yellow"?). Very bright little frogs.

Twas my first frog. I have a pair that is breeding somewhat regularly and for the second time while I've had them, I've got tads in the water (8 of them and now 5 eggs that look to be good). Cluch of up to 6 eggs. I got my male from Quality Captives, who's stock I believe is from Aaron of Aaron's Frog Farm. I don't remember where I got my female from.

They are very easy to keep and I must say, handle husbandry mistakes rather well. They are quite bold but I find that my pair likes to sleep in a hidden spot, either under the leaves of a plant, or under a log. They do stay quite small, smaller than I expected, my male is just an inch with my female being slightly larger, maybe an inch and an eighth. Not particularly territorial, as I have, at times, had to keep them in groups with other frogs.
