Re: Mixing?
Welcome to the addiction. I am going to throw my experience in here for reference. Years ago, I did my research and talked to many people before deciding that as a beginner I should keep only same species tanks. After many years of keeping and breeding darts, I decided I would give mixing a try...for awhile anyway until I could get another tank built.
I was under the impression that Terribilis were terrestrial and Galacts were arboreal and would be perfect in a tank together because they would not occupy the same space. I put 5 juvy Mint Terribilis and 4 juvy orange Galacts into a 55g heavily planted tank to grow out until the other tank was finished. Within a couple of weeks, it was clear that the Galacts were being bullies and were much more aggressive at feeding time even though they were smaller than the mints. I ended up pulling the mints to their own 55g, because the Galacts were all over the tank and seemed to intimidate the mints.
I love the group dynamic, but have found that even within their own groups, Galacts have a pecking order no matter which color you choose. The females wrestle other females, the males wrestle other males, and occasionally, I see males and females wrestling each other. The competition seems to work well for breeding, but would probably stress the laid back mints out. The females are very competitive and will readily eat each others eggs if they are not pulled quickly enough. It makes me wonder if the Galacts would try to wrestle the mints and eat their eggs if they were still in the tank with them.
