Default OT, the other dart frog.

I know this isnt a dart, but its keeping is very similar. It itself secretes poison that it extracts from its food sources in the wild, just like poison darts. Hope this interests people in Melanophryniscus stelzneri. Here is a link to a translated page on this little guy. I've kept one before, but i got it sick and died realy fast. Was hoping to either get a few of these or darts for my new viv.

here is the link:

these are greast hardy little frogs/toads. my LPS got some on a whim. i purchased them as a savior project. they were keeping them with 1/2" crickets and tree frogs. IMO, they need a drier climate than dendrobates, and are very tolerant to temperature. they were most active after a humidity drop and when the temp is around 75*. say i sprayed the viv, they would come out as it started drying up. they were also very active in the mornings as the humidity level fell. they were very verocious eaters and consumed huge amounts of hydei and mels.

i had a small water feature and they loved to eat the drowned FF from the surface of the water. good luck in finding these little gems. they were a joy to keep.

Devin Edmunds also has a couple links to care sheets. here's the link to his care page. http://amphibiancare.com/frogs/careshee ... gtoad.html

Default M. stelzneri

Unfourtunately i havent seen these guys for sale anywhere in over three years. Some websites say they provide them, but I get no responses from them.
I got one not so local pet store saying they will have them this month, but they havent answered my e-mails.
By the way, im in NYC. Fortunately I think I can accomadate a few in my viv which has many dry spots. All I would need to do is lower the water level a bit.
