I also love imitators as stated above, those would been my first choice if they weren't more then double the price of the vents. I didn't want to try my hand at 175$ frogs first shot. Later one when confidence and ability has built up then the more expensive frogs will come.
Not to say losing a vent wouldn't be just as important as losing an imitator, it's just the monetary aspect of it.

Any of the choices above I think the OP will be very happy with

Just to clear up something, Ameega Altamazonica as pictured on Understory Enterprizes is incorrect. Thats a picture of an imitator. Its not at all like that. Its a great looking frog but not really a thumbnail.

I would choose intermedius as well because mine are larger and tolerant of a larger temperature range. Plus they are very active

Ameerega altamazonica as pictured on UE is actually a borja ridge vent I believe.
So I was told by Mark and Elaine when buying my Vents that's the picture I was given to as reference.

Those are very nice.
Where are you getting it from?

Just a suggestion and it's yours if you like.
if the price of the imitator is elevated, have a look at the highland variabilis.
Very similar looking frog but 1/2 the price for the variabilis. And also a good starter frog.

But good choice, the nominal imi's have always been on my mind.

I get all my frogs from UE.
I'll let you contact UE for prices on the imitators and variabilis.
I know the imitators are more then the highland variabilis and if you look at them they are very very similar looking frogs. We can spot differences of course but very similar.

Mark and Elaine would be able to tell you which is more bold, but don't get over worried about that, it's all about how your viv is set up, and time to adapt.
I just got borja ridge vents from them and people say vents are shy, they are bold as can be for me, male is always out and calling and you have the 2 females following him

Contact UE, see the prices for both and boldness.
They may not have one or the other available right away but they will surely be able to help you.

I'm very happy with their service
