Default new frogs wont eat.

Hey i just got my very first frogs!!! Four Vents. I got them from UE so i didnt QT them, they all looked perfect.

I let them free and a while later through in some FF (melanos). The frog that did see them went for them but spat them out it looked like. Could they be to big? Should i give them springs instead? And should i scatter the flies around for them so they all see, or will they eventually go find them?

You could try putting a piece of apple in there to attract the flies so they can eat them when they are comfortable. Also, try not dusting them until they start eating regularly. Good Luck

Were all the frogs spitting out the flies? If they were used to a different prey item, or a different supplement mix, the new taste/sensation may cause them to reject the food immediately, but within a day or two they should get used to it. If the tank isn't already seeded with springs and/or isopods, I would do it as soon as you can.

On a side note, you should ALWAYS quarantine, regardless of the source. I've rec'd healthy looking frogs from breeders that I respect very much that had unhealthy parasite loads.

i agree, just keep on feeding them and they will quickly adjust and be fine.

I was told by numerous people that you dont have to worry about QT with UE. But i totally understand.. next time for sure.

just so i know for sure, how many FF should these little guys be eating every day?

Get some springs going.....won't hurt. Almost every frog will go after a spring walking on a leaf and it's great to stimulate thier appetite. Vents can be skittish feeders.

Leaf litter too.

i threw basically an entire spring culture 2 weeks ago before i had the frogs. They seemed to have disappeared.. under leaf litter and what not. They arent just crawling around openly.

Try to find a local buddy with some booming cultures and just feed out and tap them in daily.

One of the other important reasons to QT no matter who the source is so that you can observe the frogs to make sure they are actually eating for you. So even if you know the fecals were done and clean - which you could theoretically know, this gives you a better observation of the frogs. Especially if you have shy ones.
