Default Intermedius

I had 2 intermedius donated to my classroom.

One has an orange body with bluish legs.

One has a yellow body with bluish legs.

I'm pretty sure they are both female (will get pics up soon).

***

I'm hoping to set up breeding projects for my students. Would it be "acceptable" to breed like a orange one with a yellow one?

Thanks

they are the same species with slightly variation in color, so yes. However the it is not the same as tincts where you have different color morphs and different species. I bet your students will love the project.

These are pictures that the original donator sent me.

I'll try to take some pictures myself as well. I did get to write him a pretty sweet donation receipt to use on taxes, so there is benefit to donating besides just feeling good inside.

Any guesses if they are actually female?

Thanks

My experience is limited but I think the yellow might be a male.
I usually concentrate on the area where the reproductive organs develop: Eggs take up more space than gonads.
But that really depends on the age?
Do you have them in the class room?
If so, what is the temp range in there?
Great project for the students and I hope it all works out.
Let me know whats up.

Well, the original owner believed them to be female.

I have not heard any calling. I did see two eggs laid on a leaf a few weeks ago that have since gone bad, but I was told that females will sometimes lay eggs w/o a male around.

They are both 2 years old.

Classrooms are probably about 70-73 with it being warmer out now.

Hope this helps,

If you and the previous owner have not heard calling it is likely you have two females. My males started calling within half an hour after going into their permanent enclosure (they only called intermitantly in the smaller q-teen tank), and now call throughout the day with increased calling after misting and feeding.
