Default 46g vert or horizontal? Regional Specific?

Hey guys, ive been out of the boards for quite awhile...actually almost two years now. Whew. Its good to be back into the hobby. I got rid of my last viv when i left the hobby but ive been presented with a 46g challenge and I intend to go strong on it.

I just wanted to know what you guys thought would be a good idea for this 46g. Vert or Horizontal and why?

Also I was wondering how challenging it would to get a viv going that only used plants and foliage from the natural region. Ie. Plants species that would be found in south america for a amazon habitat viv. It might be effect for a non visible affect but it would be a nice satisfaction.

Ideas? I plan to make this viv using all input from the community and just go with advice and flow. =]

Good to be back. =]

question...the only tank that I personally know of with that amount of gallons is a 46 bow, is yours not a bowfront? Is there a 46 in the normal rectangular shaped tanks?

josh h posted a great list of plants from south and central america with locality data for all. I added a bunch of orchids with locality data to the list, and there are some other threads here that cold help.

Vert or horiz? what about a sideways vert? so the tank opens in the front, not the top, but its still wider than it is tall? That would be a fairly unique style.

It is a custom made 46g rectangle tank. Just pretty standard looking.
Im personally leaning towards going with it horizontal and really overgrowing it for awhile before introducing any frogs. I would really like a Venezuela habitat but that might be a bit much work hunting down enough plants to fill this whole tank fully.

What are the dimensions of the tank? I think without this critical piece of information we cannot give any useful advice on which way to set it up…

Also what plants/frogs you plan on putting in it will be a deciding factor… Would you rather have fewer taller plants or more shorter plants? Will your frogs be terrestrial or arboreal?

Im away on holiday right now, so i dont have the tank right in front of me. But i am going to say the dimensions are very close to 36"L x 15"W x 20"H.

Right now, frogs arent even on my mind. I might put a pair or so in there at a muchh later date. As far as which plants im not quite sure myself, as i am still debating on whether or not to go with a South American plants only vivarium for authenticity.
