Default Leaf Litter??

I know this may be a stupid question but do you order leaf litter or is it something you just get from outside. I would be worried that the leaves had pesticides or bugs or something else that could be harmful to the frogs. If you do order it does anyone know of where I can order it from?

Alot of the sponsors sell leaf litter including magnolia leaves which look really nice. You can also collect leafs from outside. I use oak because they have a low decomposition rate but just about any type should be fine some will just decompose faster than others. To ensure they do not have parasites bake them in your oven at around 300 degrees for at least an hour. Just keep an eye on them you dont want a brush fire in your oven.

yes a brush fire would be very bad, thanks for the tip. To be safe I think I will just order it. (I burn everything! )

I boiled the leaves I got. I felt safer boiling them as opposed to baking them.

I also gathered from remote areas in the forest.

yeah I just checked Black Jungle too, I'm going to check some more places. I was planning to layer the substrate as the following if you have any suggestions please let me know.

False Bottom, Hydroton, Eds Substrate Mix (from ed's fly meat), leaf litter

Does that sound ok?

Ya sounds good I just went with hydro balls, substate, then leaf litter. The hydro balls really act as a false bottom allowing water flow and drainage from the soil.

I wanted the false bottom so that I can put the filter under there to filter the water
