Tap vs. R/O
I recently read where some people might be using dechlorinated tap water for their frogs vs. Reverse Osmosis (RO). As I am new, I would like to know the general consensus if you will.
Also, I own a Kold-Steril unit, and wonder if anyone might be using that to cleanse their frog water. It removes the toxins from tap water without removing the DOCs, so TDS is still at tap water levels.
Thoughts?

Re: Tap vs. R/O
It's completely up to you. The nice thing with using RO is that water spots are less abundant. I think it was Ed that mad the good point that RO water has a low TDS until the second it touches something in your tank.

Re: Tap vs. R/O
I think most folks use a combination. Aged/treated tap water is used for eggs, tads, and frog ponds and the RO water is generally used for misting because of the water spotting. I'm not sure about the filter you've proposed, it will probably leave water spots when misting with it, but it might be fine for the eggs and tads?? "Toxins" is a word that gets thrown around a lot these days and means different things to different people. A more defined list of what is being filtered/removed might be helpful.

Re: Tap vs. R/O
I use well water, right from the tap.
If however my city water was suspect or I knew my well water was very hard [it isnt], I'd switch to RO

Re: Tap vs. R/O
I use bottled spring water expensive yes but Florida water is terrible and even Amqueling it does not make me confortable enough to use it on spraying frogs or tad rearing. Some parts of the country have great water out of the tap, in Ohio I merely aged and then used it without any further modification, I successfully raised frogs for 10 years there with it.
I like spring water because of the minerals, I think it must help in development but I have nothing to back that up.

i watched on the news a while ago that some of the spring water bottle were not different form tap water, i’m not saying is the same but they discover that the companies whom sell water bottles were using regular tap water.
I live in madison wisconsi and water her has a lot of mineral, but i use my water filter for my fish tanks and all the fish wer happy, even my angels fish laid eggs quite a few times, so i was planing to use regular tap water from my filter for my frogs(when i get them)

Several bottled water companies use a municipal water source. With that said, it doesn't necessarily mean the water is bad, just that some people have really good tap water

Re: Tap vs. R/O
I've only owned my darts for about a month now, but I've actually been using rain water in the water dish as well as for misting. I can't say for certain that it's a direct result of the rain water, but the plants in my tank are growing and multiplying like crazy! I also use strictly rain water for my house plants and they do very well without any fertilizer at all!

Rain water naturally has ammonia in it (and I believe phosphates, but I could be wrong...I know there's something else pertinent involved), so it will produce better results and provide more for your plants than pure RO/DI water.

Re: Tap vs. R/O
I use bottled water, distilled for misting and spring water for water dishes. Nothing really wrong with the tap water here, but I get bottled water from work for next to nothing, so it is very convenient and economical for my small collection.
