Horizontal or Vertical?

Going to be setting up a new tank for some D. Azureus -- they will be my first darts.

Should I do a vertical or a horizontal setup?

What are the measurements of the tank? My azureus use more of the floor space in their tank. (5ft long) On occasion they climb up the back wall but 90% of the time they are on the ground or just hanging out on a piece of wood. In my opinion, a horizontal tank will better suit them.

I actually haven't decided yet on the tank dimensions. It's going to be custom built.

I'm planning on housing 2 or 3 males and 1 female Azureus in there... From what I understand is that having multiple females can result in some serious aggression issues.


I'm think of 20" x 20" x 20"... So it'll be about a 35 gallon tank. Think that'll be enough for 3 or 4 Azureus?

That is funny, because I also took a double take and was like 20x20x20. That is a cube. But truthfully, that would not be a bad option either. Otherwise, I would also go with the horizontal. My azureus are either on the ground or the lower plants in the tank. I don't often see them near the top of the tank but they sometimes do.

I am wondering if you are questioning front opening or top?

'cause obviously you are making a cube.

Consider a change in dimensions and shoot for a 40 gal, set up with the greatest space on the floor...front or top opening is up to you...since you are making it custom
