Default Groupable PDF's

Anything besides Leucs that do well in groups?

Im looking at purchasing my first PDF's here in the next few months.
I like the look of a mixed tank often seen at Zoos but I know thats frowned upon.

They will be going into a 75g tank. So I really wouldnt want just a pair of PDF's.
The tank stays around 78* in the day and at night around 70* Humidity ranges from 68% to 87%

Thanks.

you can go with costa rican green and black auratus, also galacs. E. Anthonies 'SI's' are great group frogs with a great call - for a starter frog I would recommend getting older frogs with the si's as froglets are small
I would always recommend leucs first though - very tolerant frogs

I would second leucs being the "easiest" to group and have success with, plus they are much less expensive than the others if you're just starting out. Auratus all group pretty well, so it's a matter of color preferences on those. Any sort of thumb or pumilio will generally group pretty well, but they are much harder to keep an eye on in a 75G tank.

I'm not sure why pumilio are repeatedly recommended as a group frog (unless it's a single male w/ a harem of females)- because male pumilio are highly territorial and downright nasty towards one another.

Commonly grouped frogs are:
auratus
leucomelas
thumbnail species (imitators, intermedius, etc)
galactonus
terribilis
bicolor
anthonyi

Truncatus are great in groups too, and suitable for beginners

I would like to start with a pair and maybe work up to about 6 frogs.
I do like the fact that Leucs are the least expensive but im not a big fan of yellow. lol

I like the colors in the azureaus but only having three frogs in such a big tank seems kinda pointless.

thanks for all the info/opinions!

Three azureus in a 75g would leave you room for a nice big water feature, etc. You could do a group of 6 azureus or so, but I'd recommend waiting until you've got a little more experience with darts and know what aggression looks like. Ive heard of 5-8 azures kept together in larger vivs, with multiple males and females, and there not being problems. I believe the frogs were typically raised up together from froglets, however.

Well I just grabbed a 18x18x18 Exo-Terra cube for cheap. So maybe Ill start out with a few in that.
A couple or trio of auratus would fit nicely in there.

How much water do most PDF's like? I really dont see alot of PDF tanks with huge water features unless it houses fish as well.

Again thanks for all the help!

I have heard the same, and the ones I know about were raised together.

My Coast Rican G&B auratus love their water - they swim in it, and pick off any insects that happen to go for a swim themselves. With a 75g, there would be room for a largish water feature, while still providing plenty of leaf litter for the frogs. There are claims of female tincs drowning other females in shallow water, but the claims seem to be unsubstantiated (like the superworm that ate the lizard from the inside out legend). Personally, I think 2.1 azureus in a well thought out 75 would make for an awesome display, and designed correctly, would allow them to raise offspring right in the viv. There are few things more spectacular than the courting and parental behaviors of dendrobates.
