stiff plastic mesh

I went to Michael's, JoAnne Fabrics and Home Depot looking for some plastic mesh that I can heat and bend into the desired shape. There is a thread in member's vivs and frogs that shows the process - I can't find anything stiff enough to use as a backbone for landscaped hills and a pool.

What material ... anyone remember the thread I'm thinking about?

The closest was some sort of needlework plastic at JoAmme's - was sort of ridid, but too small to do everything in one piece. I'm working with an 18x36" area.

Could it be cross-stitch backing?

I think that needlework plastic is what you're looking for. Walmart sells it in 18x18 pieces I believe, so two might do the trick for you. My wife bought some to do something with, no idea because she's not a sewing type, but I looked at it and I think it would work.
