Default How important is a water feature?

Working on my first designs now by looking at all your guys' tanks. They ALL seem to have water features. How important are they really?

I am thinking of putting some larger frogs, probably tincts or leucs in a 20 long. I was designing and designing a good way to put a little stream or waterfall in there and it dawned on me that it was likely a whole lot of trouble if it was just for aesthetics. I am sure I could make a pretty cage without a pond. I plan on putting a cool mist humidifier in either way, so i will be able to keep the tank nice and moist.

Are there some frogs that really want a little pond? Which are they?

I've seen a few different collections, and generally speaking, the show tanks have a water feature, the breeding tanks don't. This usually means 1 or 2 tanks with water features and the rest are simple, flat ground tanks.

There are a few species that seem to really like having a water feature, but Leucs and Tincs aren't on that list.

I dont think they are required but I feel like mine keeps the humidity up. It's always nice and moist in there and I rarely mist.

One of my azures can often be seen bathing in the pond area, I think hunting floating ff's. If you do create one keep it shallow, as I understand pdfs arnt the best of swimmers.

Water features are primarily aesthetic, but why skimp on aesthetics if it is your only tank? I say do it up!

Humidity can be controlled easier by something other than the water feature. I would not use a 'cool mist humidifier'. Vent adjusting and size will balance humidity just fine.
The main use for a water feature that actually holds water , like a pond, you have a place for tads to be transported. Very nice to find little ones hopping around as a surprise.

No, i dont have a water feature in any of mine and i know alot of others that dont either. So you could just mist and your frogs will be happy and healthy (on that matter anyway)
And
Tongo- No a pump wouldnt be needed if you were willing to change the water out every so often so it doesnt get too nasty.

P.s. none of my tanks have a pond either

Most here suggest you get a couple vivs under your belt before attempting vivs with water features.
I wish I had waited but my first viv was for my anoles and my water feature was nowhere near what I wanted it to be.
