Default Leaf litter

Hello all,
I wasn't able to find this in the search engine so here it goes. When I add in Magnolia leaf litter it mold up really bad. There are white, green and some even black blotches. Is that normal? Will the frogs be ok on the leaf litter or should I remove it? I only cleaned them by running them through hot distilled water. Thanks.

Try springtails, springtails are detritavores that eat fungus that grows on the forest floor, breaking down the material without bringing about its decay. If you haven't already added springtails to the tank I don't see what it would hurt to see if they will eat up the fungal growth problem you are having. On the health of the frogs, if this mold has been there for awhile and you aren't having any problems, I would say don't worry about it.

Maybe try using oak leaves if the springtail thing doesnt work. I havent had any problems with mold when it comes to the oak leaves. You could also try cleaning the leaves better before adding to the terrarium. I do a bleach/water bath and then let the leaves air dry before using them. Make sure not to use too much bleach, just a very small amount....Sara
