Default Question on temporary azureus housing...

I am preparing for the arrival of a pair of sub-adult azureus. I believe that they have been kept together by the breeder, so I am planning on keeping them together in a temporary setup for a week or two to make sure that they are eating.

I have a Sterilite container that is about 12" long x 6" wide x 5" high. If I fix this up with some moist spaghnum moss, some philodendron cuttings and a couple magnolia leaves for hiding spots, would this work for two sub-adult azureus?

I don't know if I would put subadults in a sterilite container that size. I would put them into a temporary 10g setup, or a sterilite container of about the same size.

Agreed. For sub adults, I'd keep them in something as large or larger than a 10g even if it is tempory. Target has some elcheapo Sterilite containers, 66 qt (16.5g) ), for like 5 bucks. http://sterilite.com/Category.html?S...uctCategory=38

I also agree. My 3 sub adult azur's are currently in a temp 10g and they use every inch of it. Every now and then, especially during feeding, I'll hear one bounce off the side from an overzealous jump. They like a bit of room to rhomp. check gallery for pics

Thanks for the info. I will get a larger container. Does the rest of my setup sound ok?

tflanag1--

If they are nearly full grown, have been kept as a pair by the breeder, arrive lively and healthy appearing, why not just introduce them to the tank you have set up for them? If it is 30 gallons or under, and not overgrown, you'll be able to keep pretty good track of them, as they are usually bold frogs if healthy, will eat well, and will be good sized. I usually quarantine everything separately myself, but in this case, I'm not sure there is a need for it, especially since you won't be keeping them separately in quarantine, anyway.

I did quarantine my own azureus pair together in a 10 gallon for a while. They arrived very cold and immobile, so at first, I thought they were dead. However, with a bit of warming, they came right back to "life" within 30 minutes, and immediately began hop around and eat, with no further consequences.
