Default How many to purchase at one time?

In process of building first Virv and deciding upon what to buy. I would like to start out with D. azureus or auratus for first frog. From what i found through my reserch is that seems like a good starter frog. Building a 10 G Hor tank. i found that i can have at least 2 and no more than 4 of each of the above frogs. Can i buy one here, and lets say 3 months down the line, buy another (quarantine of course), or should i wait to buy both at one time?

Thankyou everone

Good question!

I've always bought mine two at a time at the same time. Hmmmmm????

Just to clarify one thing, given your 10 gallon viv you only want to put TWO maximum in there. The general rule is one frog per 5 gallons of viv space.

If you can find a frog of similar size to your in a few months, there's no reason you can't get them at different times. I will say though that I can't recommend putting any more than two of either of those species in a 10g tank.

Definitely no more than two auratus or azureus in a 10 gal; they get to be fairly large frogs, and I'd even say if you can do a larger viv, all the better.
As far as purchasing goes, my take is that it's best to get them at the same time and introduce them to the viv at the same time. My experience is, that if one frog has the run of a (small) viv for a while by itself, it tends to not take kindly to later additions, as the first has already established the viv as his own territory. Adding the two frogs to the viv together, though, seems to greatly reduce the chance of aggression between them, in my experience, at least. Hope you find this helpful! Good luck!

Thank you for all your help.
Would you agree that these are great starter frogs or suggest something else?

Thank you again!

Both species are great for beginners. One thing to consider is how much you'll see them in a typical setup. Azureus are much more bold than Auratus. If you decide to go with Auratus, keep in mind they move very fast, so you may have trouble catching them if you need to for any reason.

Just to throw out some caution with adding frogs to some that are already established. The best way to do it is to move them all to a new tank at the same time. With Tincs you can run into problems if you add an adult to an already established tank.
