fruit fly media used up quickly?

Hey, I have a fruit fly culture that I made several weeks ago, and the media is almost totally used up. I got that first big hatch, and am waiting on the second big hatch, but I dont think there is enough media to sustain the culture beyond then. When I started this culture, I remember putting a lot of flies in there; is that what caused the short-lived nature of this culture?

Several weeks is pretty full term for a culture, unless you did 3/4 cup or so. But all in all, the more flies in the culture the faster it will be used.

I finally found out that I was using way too many flies to start with. Especially with the hydei. I started using 10-15 to start with and they are doing way better. With the melanogaster I used twice as many.
