Mid 70s is good for most of the common species. Most (but not all) will tolerate occasional trips into the low 80s, but not prolonged stays there.

Not gonna work. There might be some species out there that will tolerate that, but I'm not going to venture a guess as to what, other than maybe some pumilio, those would be.

i agree w/ catfur, unless its pumilio, darts usually like it in the mid 70s
i would suggest raising your lights up a bit, or vent a bit more. or going w/ pumilio. Haha !!!!

Have you tried measuring the temp at different heights? If you have a gradient, you may be okay. We recently tried this in a 20g extra high tank that holds pumilio. At the top, the temp was 84ºF, and at the bottom it was 76º. The pumilio range up and down and are very happy.
