Default D. Pumilio "Blue"?

I was wondering if anyone knows around what price D. Pumilio "blue" goes for, and where anyone knows to find a few. Thanks.

The only blue pum that I know of that is available to the hobby is the Darkland morph. It is extremely rare in the hobby and you would probably never get one without having a conection in the hobby. I would imagine that they are extremely expensive.

Depending on if you know people, the Darks will range from 300 to 500 a piece for juviniles. These are some of the hardest pumilio to breed, and, honestly at this point, should be left to the more advanced hobbyists. You chances of finding these and actually purchasing them are slim to none. Try some other dart frogs before you think about these guys.

i agree with blue dart on the darklands. if you know where to look and dont mind waiting 300+ is the going rate though. i would suggest some larger frogs before getting pumilio. also, i saw some pics of "blueish" pumilio in the new shipments you may be able to get for 100-150 if you contact some of the people importing them now. later josh

i know this isnt really relavrent to the topic but i was wondering....what in Angie's post gave you two the idea that these would be her first dart frogs? i was just wondering because i saw nothing to lead me to believe these were going to be her first frogs. and not to single the two quoted posters, because i see people questioning other people's experience level more and more on this board. IMO, we shoud adress the questions asked, and maybe add some follow up questions to clarify we are adressing all ocncerns for the animal. maybe Angie is not offended at all and this post isnt out of line, but ive seen it happen recently with even more aggression and being close to insulting.

i think we just need to be careful about answering the questions that are answered and try not to tell people "you arent good enough for that frog" when there is no eveidence that a person isnt.

Angie, ive never seen these listed as 'available' anywhere. there are possibly some breeders that have waiting list though, which im sure are quite long. you could begin by checking with Thomas at pumilio.com. he has them pictured on his site and may be working (or know some one who is) with them.

I saw a post recently on another board [whispers "dartden] where one of the frye brothers was building an "uberviv" and he was very succesful breeding darklands in there but I got the impression that they were unavailable for sale. In fact the frogs he had were not his but were on loan from another breeder. I got the feeling you had to be a zoo keeper or someone with major experience and connections to get these frogs.

When I asked about it I was told that they are very rare and hard to breed and extremely sensitive. Small mistakes can be fatal.

Personally I think these are some of the most beautiful darts. I would LOVE to get a pair of them myself. But I also think I need more knowledge and experience before considering keeping such a sensitive frog. Not to mention the fact that they are way outside anything I could ever afford.

Landon,

She did ask about pumilio “Blue” a name that, it would appear, none of the responders have heard of. I think that the issue of questioning experience level is simply a response to the way newcomers often come onto the board. Many talk as though they have lots of experience when they don’t, so the backlash is inevitable. Also many people are truly concerned about establishing new and rare collection locations within the US hobby. A newcomer, with money to burn, is often a dead end. You’ve been on this board for a while. I’m sure you’ve seen the guys who sign on and three weeks later they list four of five types of frogs in their sig. Another month goes by and they are either selling their frogs or they just disappear and no one knows where the frogs went. You make good points about the assumptions we make, and we should all try to be courteous. In this case I don’t think that it would be out of line for a responder to ask if Angie had experience with egg feeders, considering the rarity of the frog involved.

I don’t know Tadpole, I was thinking ‘Darklands’ myself. My point was that by asking about pumilio ‘Blue’ Angie was indicating that she was not an expert. Of course that is not a bad thing. I was just making an observation. Then again, maybe she did see a reference to pumilio ‘Blue’ somewhere and we are all showing our ineptitude.

Either way Angie,

Please don’t take offense. In our own way, we are all trying to be helpful. Also, I believe that Rich Frye breeds ‘Darklands’ Take a look at

Edit- Oops...Tadpole already mentioned that. ops:

So here is a link from the other board. rich answers the hot question of what he is planning with the frogs in his collection

http://dartden.com/viewtopic.php?t=7...ight=darklands

The bottom line is they are not available to the public and are not ever likely to be. There are LOTS of threads on there where Rich discusses his darklands and other very rare morphs. I just did a search for Darklands and came up with a page of topics.

I did a google search for "blue d. pumilio" and pumilio.com has images of blue pumilio that look just like the darklands to me but then I have never seen these frogs in person and I know next to nothing about the whole locality issue. So maybe they are a different morph? :? Honestly I am totally confused by the whole controversy.
